The Final Rule gives us a breakdown of specified time that is included in a CPT code. So for example a 44140 has a pre evaluation time of 30 minutes, which is your pre-op. Then it lists the positioning of the patient (15 min), the Scrub, Dress and wait time (15 min), the intra-service time (150 min) and then 30 min of post op time.

This is typically the amount of time it should take for the surgery to be completed, in its entirety including your pre- and post-op. So when an E/M is included in the global period this Excel sheet gives you a breakdown of why it’s included. The physician is already getting paid for the time of the pre- and post-op in the time for the surgery.
